Thinking Out Loud

All of us mess up at times, sometimes really big.  The beautiful thing is God delights in taking broken lives and restoring them to their original purpose.  2 Chronicles 33:1-17 tells the amazing story of King Manasseh.  Manasseh made a major mess of his life, yet through God's grace he experienced restoration and freedom.  My friend Sam Stuckey and I had the privilege of sharing this amazing story and how it relates to our lives. Everyone likes to win.  There is something about winning that just feels good, even right.  When it comes to life, faith and following Jesus, everyone desires to be victorious.  Hebrews 12:1-2 gives us clear direction on how it is achieved. Some things belong together.  Others do not.  When it comes to the Church, people belong.  People belong because people matter to God.  People are loved by God and therefore belong.  The more we become a church of belonging the more we will fulfill our purpose. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 teaches us to be  thankful in all circumstances.  Though this may seem impossible at times, it is a prescription for a better life.  When we learn to practice gratitude, we experience the life God desires for us. We live in a non-stop world.  We are bombarded by deadlines, responsibilities, and distractions.  Finding time to stop is not easy, but it is necessary.  If we want to follow Jesus fully and live with a guarded heart, then we must slow down and find rest. Ordinary people are far from perfect people.  We sin, and at times fail real hard.  Our enemy wants us to believe that it is over for us, but it is not.  Following Jesus involves growing through our failure so that we might live truly extraordinary lives. Life is not always an easy journey.  Often time's it does not go according to plan.  It is in those moments of pain, hurt, and disappointment that we must trust Jesus.  It is in those moments that our faith is refined, made stronger, and more real. We are designed for relationships. Relationships are one of God’s greatest gifts to us. They are also one of life’s greatest pressure points. It doesn’t have to be this way. We live in a broken world and we are a broken people. As a result pain is inevitable. We hurt people and people hurt us. Thankfully God has chosen to forgive us.
